STAINED GLASS CARE

 Handling

Great White Shard's stained glass pieces were handcrafted using traditional methods containing lead-based solder. While leaded glass is safe to display and enjoy, please keep out of reach of children and pets.  Avoid contact with food or mouth after touching the piece until hands are thoroughly cleaned.

 Cleaning

Basic cleaning:

— Use a soft (preferably microfiber), dry cloth to gently dust the glass.

— Deeper cleaning:

— Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or soaking the piece.

— Use a soft cloth slightly dampened with plain water (for best results I recommend distilled water) or a mild, non-ammonia or vinegar glass cleaner.

 Polishing (optional)

If desired, you can use polish made specifically for glass. Use sparingly with a soft cloth and buff gently.

Important Note: some polishes can have abrasive properties, so make sure your read the containers. Abrasive properties can damage patina finishes (Patina is a special finish applied to the surface of solder lines to give them a richer look. Instead of shiny silver, patina can turn metal black, warm copper, or antique brass). I use Mothers California Gold Wax Paste primarily since is safe/ non-abrasive. With that said, I do like using Liva Polish on standard silver solder. The mild abrasive quality can help with a beautiful shine.

 Natural Aging Process

— Whether a standard leaded piece or treated with patina, over time you may notice subtle changes in tone or a softening of the finish—this is a normal and natural part of the aging process.

— Like all handcrafted materials, stained glass develops unique character over time. With regular cleaning and occasional polishing, you can help maintain its appearance while allowing it to gracefully mature.

 Placement & Storage

— Display indoors and avoid direct contact with water or outdoor elements.

— Keep away from high humidity areas (like bathrooms) to prevent oxidation.

— Hang securely. Make sure hanging point(s) or fixture can support the piece's weight. If you decide to use window suction cups, please note that their stability can be compromised over time and with temperature fluctuation.

— If you need to package it up, I recommend my shipping method [insert here].

  Safety Note

Lead-based solder can pose a heath risk if ingested or inhaled over time. While lead is not easily absorbed through the skin. It can stick to your skin or under your fingernails. If you touch your mouth, eat, or drink without washing your hands, you can accidentally ingest it. This is why it's very important to wash your hands thoroughly after handling stained glass. Please keep out of reach of children and pets.

While some of my pieces are made with lead-free solder (which I will specify on their listings), Please be aware these are still made of glass. Glass still requires handling with care and is not recommend around children or pets without supervision.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Commissions?

In the past they have been welcomed on a case by case basis, but at this time they are closed. With that said, I am always open to ideas! I am always happy to hear what designs or fandoms you are interested in seeing. If you'd like to submit an idea, feel free to reach out to me via email or on one of my social media platforms.

Do I do pre-orders?

No, and for a few reasons.

1. I want folks to see exactly what they are getting. Since every piece is handcrafted with unique glass and techniques, each completed piece can carry its own unique personality.

 2. I prefer to deal in products I know I have in stock. There are several things that can happen in the creating process, and I rather prevent any problems or delays.

3. If someone is interested in a design I have produced in the past, please feel free to reach out! This helps me out a lot! It helps me gauge interest, and gives me the opportunity to let you know if another release is planned.
